Reflecting on the year
Hi - it’s Bryan.
Tis the season for reflection.
My Dad retired this year. His retirement party forced me to reflect on his career and its hand in shaping me.
So, I made a list of memorable events. Not all of them were productive.
Age 3: I pulled the office fire alarm during the middle of the day.
Age 4: I sliced my hand open in Dad’s office while he was in a meeting.
Ages 8-14: Company travel turned into family vacations
Age 16: I did my best to ensure idle company cars did not have dead batteries, flat tires, or mice in the vents…
Age 19+: Internships, externships, and first job.
You get the point. I was around a lot.
Reflecting on these memories has reminded me of the reasons for his success. One stands out.
He taught me to act like an owner, investing the same pride and effort into his career that any farmer invests in their business. I was around a lot because he cared about his business a lot.
So, congrats on a great career, Dad. Don’t drive Mom too crazy!
Best,
Bryan
